Cash and cards
Carry some cash. While cards work at larger businesses in Ecuador (which uses the US Dollar), travelers strongly advise carrying small bills ($10/$20) for rural areas, markets, taxis, and Galapagos fees, while also warning of frequent card surcharges and skimming risks.
