Cash and cards
Carry some cash. According to 2025-2026 Reddit reports, while major supermarkets, hotels, and upscale restaurants in Georgetown accept Visa, Guyana remains largely a cash-based society. Travelers should carry GYD for markets, transport, and smaller shops, and be cautious of card cloning.
